So as you all know… I don’t leave the couch unless I’m paid large amounts of money. And by large… I mean obscene. But I have finally made an exception. And so should you. On October 5th 2008, you can join me along with nearly 200 000 other Canadians for the 16th annual Run for the Cure. Last year we raised 27 million dollars for Breast Cancer Research… …With Team Kalan raising 50 000 dollars alone. We want to top it this year! We want to be the Michael Phelps of the Run for the Cure. Or at least the Canadian swimmer that lost terribly but gave his best effort (I don’t remember his name) Now if you’re like me… you’re thinking… Fundraising and physical exertion…. Hmmm…. Sounds like a hoot. Well… you don’t actually have to run… You can always do this… Haha… Stupid. …Or you could start training. I’m training already. A strict diet of RedBull and Chicken McNuggets And lots of squeezes of the ole buttocks… while watching the FoodNetwork. Anyways… You can join our team here TEAM KALAN IF YOU WANT A TEAM KALAN T-SHIRT… YOU MUST BE REGISTERED BY SEPTEMBER 19, 2008 You can raise money online or offline. |
| New look, same fiddling sensation | ||
|
By Erin Fitzgerald Kalan Porter's trademark long, blonde curls are gone, replaced by a sleek, straight haircut with blonde highlights. The change makes him hard to recognize. Last night, Porter fiddled at the Festival of Lights for an audience that sat shoulder to shoulder in their chairs, filling Del Crary Park's lawn. Porter told the frenzied audience that he decided to cut his locks when a flight attendant recently mistook him for a 14-year-old. The 22-year-old had been sitting beside an attractive girl at the time. The former "Canadian Idol" winner was quiet behind the scenes last night. He did a meet and greet with about 20 fans before his show and obligingly gave out hugs and signed memorabilia. Porter said he had fond memories of Peterborough from when he performed at the festival two summers ago. "You just remember a show when you had really great energy and that was one of them," he said. Porter also mentioned that he had a good tour through the city when his driver got lost on the way to the festival. "I am doing a bit of an experimental show tonight. There will only be three of us onstage, it will be different than what fans are used to." Fans seemed to buy into the new sound, screaming when he arrived onstage with his fiddle and broke into, "Down In Heaven" from his latest disc. He mixed his song "Single," from his first album, with Michael Jackson's classic "Billie Jean" bringing some in the crowd out of their seats. Porter said many songs from his latest CD were inspired from the time he took off from recording to be with his mother when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Megan O'Connor, 16 came from Toronto to see the show. "I'm not usually into this music, but he makes me want to listen to him," she said. |

| Nice Little Article (New blog!) | ||
|
Socan rented out a nice restaurant in Toronto... And we partied with all the people that help me do what I do. Fun night. Here is the article: http://www.medicinehatnews.com/content/view/40716/74/ PORTER HONORED BY SOCAN by ZOE SZUCH Medicine Hat's very own Canadian Idol season 2 winner Kalan Porter was recently honoured by the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN). "It's cool – especially coming from (SOCAN)," said Porter. Porter's song Hurray received the No.1 Song Award for reaching the top spot on the MuchMusic Countdown chart in late May. "When we had originally written the song, I really didn't like it – at all. I just wanted to totally scrap it but my manager – to his credit – said 'live with it a bit and change it around a bit,'" said the former Hatter. The night before Porter was scheduled to record Hurray, he re-wrote the entire thing. "It just sort of came together and became one of my favourite songs," he said of the 2007 release Wake Up Living. According to Porter, the Hurray video was shot on a budget of about $3,000, "which in videoland is quite low budget," he added. "And I just did it with some kids who were out of Ryerson and put it online... eventually Perez Hilton posted it on his site... and then it sort of snowballed from there." Porter said winning an award is "really nice because it kind of keeps you going." Hurray was co-written by with Gregory Johnston and Stevie Sallis and is published by the Southern Music Publishing Co. Canada." |

| SOCAN honours Kalan Porter’s “Hurray” with No. 1 Song Award | ||
|
Hey guys, how's your summer going? Fun I hope, since summer vacation is HALF OVER! But, I do have some amazing news for you guys, yes, Kalan has received an award for 'Hurray'! SOCAN was pleased to honour singer-songwriter Kalan Porter and his co-writer Gregory Johnston with a No. 1 Award for their song “Hurray” which reached the top spot on the MuchMusic Countdown chart on May 29, 2008. SOCAN’s Vicki Walters, Irene Zeltway and Jacklyn Stott presented the No. 1 Award to Johnston and Kalan – who recorded and performs the song – at Sassafraz restaurant, in Toronto’s fashionable Yorkville district, on the evening of July 9, 2008. (The third co-writer of the song, Stevie Sallis, who is unaffiliated with any performing rights organization, will receive his plaque at a later date.) The song is published by the Southern Music Publishing Co. Canada, administered by peermusic Canada. Peermusic’s Cheryl Link and Maggie Hidderley also received award plaques at the celebration. |

| Idol's show a success | ||

Hello my lovelies! How's everyone's summer going? Good I hope, because mine is hot...and boring, lol. And so, I thought a little bit of Kalan news would do us well. (And for Kalan's blog, scroll down!) Remember that benefit concert Kalan played at the Micheal J. Fox theatre? Well... 'They thought she couldn't do it, but Burnaby mom Ellen Wong organized a sold-out benefit show at the Michael J. Fox Theatre June 24. Wong raised $12,000 for the B.C. Centre for Ability through a benefit concert staring Canadian Idol Kalan Porter... "Everyone was very happy, and Kalan gave a tiptop performance that evening," Wong said. Porter stayed after the show to sign autographs for more than 400 people, she added.' I always find it so amazing how he pretty much stays and signs EVERY last autograph. LOVE it, :D Click "Read More" for the rest... |

"Canadian Idol winner Kalan Porter was so touched by the tale of a 10-year-old Burnaby boy born with cerebral palsy that he is flying across the country next week to play a concert for his cause. The story of Dex Wong, a Chaffey-Burke elementary school student, resonated with the three-time Juno-nominee so much that he’s agreed to play a fundraising concert at the Michael J. Fox Theatre on Tuesday... ...The concert is June 24 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Michael J. Fox Theatre, 7373 MacPherson Ave. Tickets cost $49.80, including tax and box office fees, and are available by phone at 604-664-8875 or e-mail at Monika.Vriend@sd41.bc.ca." Asked what he might do with his next album he answered, "I'm going back and forth between whether I should do something really like indie; kind of weird that I really like, something sort of electro-pop-- not like a Euro-dance record, along the lines of Justice. It's funny, because I have a wide fan base: some of it's young girls, but also a lot of women going from early 30s to 45-50 -- so if I do an electro record I think their heads might explode." ...My head would certainly explode...I hate Justice...and electro-pop...on the other hand, I do <3 Kalan...SOURCE |
