KALAN PORTER
Having been classically trained in violin and viola at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Kalan has never been a stranger to music. And so, auditioning and eventually winning the second season of Canadian Idol was no surprise. Since then, this 22-year-old has managed more than others his age can say they have. Kalan's first single, Awake in a Dream, became the best selling debut single for a Canadian artist to date and was certified 8x Platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association in November 2004. His debut album, 219 Days was certified 2x platinum, proving this curly haired musician would be around to stay. Upon discovering that his mother was suffering from breast cancer, Kalan Porter took a two year break from the music industry to be with his family. He then, with loyal support from his fans, began to campaign for the disease on behalf of his mother by participating in CIBC's Run for the Cure and also holding an auction to raise money for the cause. Now, Kalan has come back with his sophomore album, Wake Up Living. WUL exhibits a more mature and heartfelt side of Kalan that we haven’t seen before. Having co-written most of the songs, Kalan Porter is clearly a force to be reckoned with.
